| It is important for us to teach the next generation the importance of spaying and neutering our companion animals and free-roaming, primarily feral cats. Marty Buck, one of Altered Tails’ founding board members and animal advocate, has been going to schools doing just that. She visits each school twice. During her first visit, she speaks about spay and neutering to the students during an assembly and she tailors the concept to the age and comprehension level of the student. She always speaks about the benefits of sterilization and the challenge of the surplus cats and dogs in the United States. During the same week of the presentation, Marty returns with the Altered Tails mobile clinic and the students’ animals are sterilized. We target schools in the Valley where the students’ parents would not necessarily have the discretionary means to pay for a private veterinarian to sterilize their animals. This usually allows us to expedite vouchers from Maricopa County Animal Care and Control and the surgeries are done at no charge to the families. If you are a teacher, principal or librarian and would like for us to bring this program to your school, please email us at info@AlteredTails.Org. |
